Felt crafting is a lot of fun and fairly easy to master. I was introduced to felt crafting at an after-school event when I was 12 years old. We made Christmas tree ornaments shaped like little Christmas trees. I hated participating in events, and I definitely hated school, but I loved crafting. I am so glad I actually took part.
It wasn’t until recently that I started enjoying working with felt again. I think it is relaxing and rewarding. And unlike my other hobbies like cross stitching and crocheting, felt pattern work up quickly.
Along with my free Grinch sewing pattern, I have many other free felt sewing patterns. You can find them at the bottom of this post.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas Free Sewing Pattern
Are you looking for a free felt sewing pattern? I created this free Grinch pattern just for you. If you make this pattern, please share it with us all. I cannot wait to see your completed How the Grinch Stole Christmas projects.
All I ask from you is… please do not sell this free Grinch felt sewing pattern as your own. I created this sewing pattern for everyone to enjoy.
So, what are we waiting for? Let’s get started! This is an easy felt sewing pattern. However, the Grinch head is larger than my other projects, so it will take a little more time to complete. If the head is too big, you can always resize the pattern pieces when you print them.
I just made a cute Grinch stuffie with the felt sewing pattern. However, you can make it smaller to create an ornament. Or you can just complete the front of the free Grinch felt sewing pattern and add some magnets to the back to display it on your fridge. If you really want to get creative, increase the size and make a pillow.

How to sew a Grinch plushie | Free Grinch Sewing Pattern:
1. Collect all your supplies.
2. Print off the free sewing pattern. You can find it HERE.
3. Cut out the felt sewing pattern pieces.

4. Pin the pieces to the felt. Each piece is marked on which color to use.

5. Gently cut out all the pieces. Felt can be hard to cut, especially with dull scissors. You will need to cut 2 pieces of the large black head.
6. Position all the free Grinch felt sewing pattern pieces to make sure everything looks good to you. I cut my eyes a tad bit too big the first time, and it just looked out of whack. So, I recut a set, and they were perfect.

7. Position the eyes on the small black piece and pin them in place. Use the running stitch (white embroidery thread) to attach them to the black piece. Make the stitch all the way around each eye.
8. Once you have both eyes sewed in place, pin the two nose pieces in place. Use the running stitch (green embroidery thread) to attach the pieces. Make the stitch all the way around each nose piece.

9. Attach the black piece (with the eyes and nose) onto the green Grinch head. Pin it in place. Use several pins to make sure it does not move around. Use the running stitch to attach the piece. Make the stitch all the way around.

10. Now it’s time to add the mouth. To do this, you can cut out a piece of black felt using the mouth template and the running stitch, or you can embroider the mouth using black embroidery floss.

11. Position the completed face onto the front of one of the large black head pieces. Pin it in place. Use the running stitch to attach the face. Make the stitch all the way around the face
12. Now, position the white parts of the Santa hat and pin them in place. Use the running stitch to attach them in place. Make the stitch all the way around each white piece.

13. Position the red part of the Santa hat and pin it in place. Use the running stitch to attach it.

14. Place the completed front onto the back black head piece. Attach the 2 pieces together using the blanket stitch. DO NOT sew it completely shut. Leave a hole so you can fill the head.

15. Fill the head with Poly-fill. I noticed that overstuffing it distorted the Grinch. I removed some of the stuffing until I liked the results. Stuff the head to your liking.
16. Finish sewing the head closed using the blanket stitch.
